A study by the European Travel Commission shows a continuing expansion of the tourism season, even in the winter months, with the trend particularly evident in southern Europe, including Greece. According to the study, Mediterranean destinations such as Greece, Italy, Spain, and southern France are seeing a 7% increase in European travel preferences this year compared to last year, and for the period from October to March. The top six countries that European travelers intend to visit to over the next five months are Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany and Greece. The percentage of Europeans planning trips for this period remains high (73%) and is roughly in line with previous years. However, the percentage of Europeans who want to travel to southern Europe - and, in particular to the Mediterranean - has increased this year to 54%, from 47% last year.
