ENFIA Tax to be Scrapped in Border Areas
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to announce on Friday evening (Sept. 6) the abolition of the ENFIA property tax, a unified property tax, in border and remote regions during his address at the Vellidio Conference Center, according to reports. The measure will apply to taxpayers whose primary residence is in frontier areas with populations under 5,000. It follows the 2020 abolition of the tax in 26 remote islands and a subsequent reduction of up to 20% for homeowners who insured their properties against natural disasters. With a relatively low fiscal cost, the initiative aims to support residents of islands and border regions while addressing Greece's acute demographic challenges.
