Over Half of Greek Pensions Below €1,000, Study Finds
The latest Helios report for August paints a detailed picture of Greece's pensioners. Most are men aged between 66 and 80, living primarily in Attica and Central Macedonia. The majority receive a main pension ranging from 500 to 1,000 euros, while only four in ten pensions (41.21%) exceed 1,000 euros. The average main pension stands at 844 euros, and the average supplementary pension at 196 euros. When calculating total pension income, the report includes all types-old-age, survivor, and disability pensions-that a retiree may receive. In terms of age distribution, 25.96% of pensioners are over 81, 36.01% are between 71 and 80, and 35.04% are aged 51 to 70. Only 1.4% are under 25. Those between 61 and 70 receive the highest pensions, with men aged 71-75 making up 20.33% of all male pensioners, while women of the same age group account for 17.65% of female retirees.
